Mannitol as a Potential Pitfall for Peak Assignment on Magnetic Resonance Spectra (MRS) for Brain Tumors: A Case Report

چکیده
non-invasive technique that provides information about metabolites present in brain tissue. Thus, the use of MRS may potentially raise the diagnostic specificity and improve the diagnostic capacity of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Since MRS may provide additional information about patient prognosis and response to treatment, MRS has recently become a prevalent technique (1-3). It is rare to find examples of MRS that demonstrate the presence of a peak associated with mannitol, which is a substance commonly used to control cerebral edema in brain tumors. The presence of mannitol can cause confusion in the interpretation of MRS. We report here a case where recognition of a characteristic mannitol peak seen in the MR spectra of a 43-year-old woman with recurrent meningioma helped in the interpretation of MRS. Case Report

Detection of Glioblastoma Multiforme Tumor in Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Based on Support Vector Machine
Introduction: The brain tumor is an abnormal growth of tissue in the brain, which is one of the most important challenges in neurology. Brain tumors have different types. Some brain tumors are benign and some brain tumors are cancerous and malignant. Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the most common and deadliest malignant brain tumor in adults. The average survival rate for peo...

Introduction: Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a well-known device for analyzing the biological fluids metabolically. Obtaining accurate and reliable information via MRS needs a homogeneous magnetic field in order to provide well-defined peaks and uniform water suppression. There are lots of reasons which can disturb the magnetic field homogeneity which can be corrected by a proc...

Background and Aim: Brain tumors have remained as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality and are often refractory to treatment. The grading of brain tumor has an important implication in clinical management. Currently, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is an important dimension in evaluating metabolites and grading brain tumors. The aim of this study is to evaluate metabolites in br...
متن کاملP63: Automatic Detection of Glioblastoma Multiforme Tumors Using Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Data Based on Neural Network
Inflammation has been closely related to various forms of brain tumors. However, there is little knowledge about the role of inflammation in glioma. Grade IV glioma is formerly termed glioblastoma multiform (GBM). GBM is responsible for over 13,000 deaths per year in the America. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most commonly used diagnostic method for GBM tumors. Recently, use of the MR...
متن کاملAbsolute concentrations of metabolites in human brain tumors using in vitro proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
Water-soluble metabolites extracted from 60 surgically excised samples of various brain tumors and four nontumorous lobectomized brains were measured quantitatively using in vitro high-resolution magnetic resonance spectroscopy. A detailed MR spectrum-histology correlation study in a glioblastoma was made, to reveal MR spectral changes in accordance with the density of glioma cells. Furthermore...
